ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT—II (Electronic Devices. Components & Assemblies-I)                                                                                                              

Time : Three Hours]                                                            [Maximum Marks : 30

Note : Attempt give questions in all. Q. No. 1 is compulsory. Attempt one question from each unit.

                                      UNIT—I (Compulsory Question)  

1.(a) Why is negative feedback employed in High Gain Amplifiers?

(b) If a resistor is rated at 100 S2 and 5 W, what is the maximum current it can carry?

(c) Can an intrinsic semiconductor be changed to extrinsic semiconductor? If yes then how?

(d) What are the advantages of JFET over BJT?                                (1.5x4=6)



2. (a) Explain turn ratio and voltage ratio transformers.

(2) (b) The current flowing through a p-n function is  5uA at room temperature, when large reverse voltage is applied. Calculate the current when reverse voltage is 0.2 V ? Given VT = 25 mV at room temperature.                                       (4)


3 (a) Explain working principle of :

(i)              LED.

(ii)            (ii) Phototransistor.                                                                              (3)

3 (b) What is the basic principle of a transformer? Differentiate between Step-up and Step-down transformers.                                                                         (3)



4 )   In a full wave rectifier (centre tapped) load is 10 kohm and each diode has a resistance of 400ohm . If peak input voltage to each diode is 200 V,

find :

(i)              Peak value of current

(ii)            (ii) D.C. and r.m.s. value of current

(iii)            (iii) Ripple factor and rectifier efficiency.                                    (6)

5. (a) Explain the filter action of a capacitor and an inductor.                     (3)

(b) Series-inductor filter cannot be used with half-wave rectifier. Why?   (3)




6(a) Draw the circuit diagram of Class-A amplifier and explain it.             (3)

(b) The overall gain of a multistage amplifier is 150. When negative feedback is applied, the gain is reduced to 20. Find the function of the output that is feed back to the input.                                                                                                     (3)


7. (a) What is the effect of negative feedback on Harmonic? Distortion and frequency response of an amplifier.                                                              (3)

 (b) Discuss Class A. B. AB and Class C amplifiers on the basis of biasing conditions with neat and clean diagrams.                                                                        (3)



8) Elaborate difference between JFET and Depletion MOSFET.                     (3)

(b) What is the function of Aquadag coating on the inside wall of the glass envelope of C.R.T.?                                                                                           (3)


9. (a) Sketch the structure of a p-channel enhancement MOSFET and explain its working. What are the advantages of a p-channel MOSFET?                        (3)

 (b) Explain the need of sawtooth voltage to display waveform on CRO screen. (2)

(c) List the differences between an analogue multimeter and a digital multimeter ?
